Lime wash is a traditional mineral-based finish made from slaked lime. Unlike conventional paint, it is applied in thin, translucent layers using specialized brushes, creating a soft, velvety matte surface.
The layered application creates the subtle tonal movement and cloud-like variation that give lime wash its distinctive character. The result is a natural, dimensional finish that brings warmth and depth to interior walls, ceilings, plaster, and masonry.
Lime wash is applied by brush rather than rolled on like standard paint. The surface is carefully prepared and primed, then multiple thin, translucent coats are brushed on to create its signature soft, cloud-like movement.
Drywall is skim-coated as needed for a smooth surface, while compatible masonry is thoroughly cleaned and prepared.
A specialty mineral primer prepares drywall and previously painted surfaces for proper adhesion.

Yes — but the wall has to be smooth and even first. Lime wash goes on in thin, translucent coats, so any orange peel or knockdown texture underneath shows right through. If your walls are textured, we start by skim coating them smooth, then prime and brush on the lime wash. Prep is always the first step, and it is included in your estimate.
